Your Personal Guide to Custom-Built Safari Adventures

I’d like to share with you what happens when you choose one of my custom-built safari adventures. There’s a common misconception that opting for a custom-built trip might leave you navigating Africa on your own.

Let me assure you, that’s not how it works at all. My partners on the ground and I are dedicated to making your African journey smooth, enjoyable, and worry-free from start to finish.

From Arrival to Departure: You’re in Safe Hands

When you land in Africa, the adventure begins, but not without a warm, organised welcome. Picture this: you step off your flight, collect your bags and emerge into the arrivals area. One of my trusted colleagues – or sometimes me – will be holding a sign with your name on it. We take care of your luggage and guide you to your transfer vehicle, ready to whisk you off to your first accommodation.

It’s all about a stress-free start to your journey.

In some cases, if your adventure involves connecting to a domestic flight, we’re right there to help. Whether it’s assisting with transfers between international and domestic terminals or even shuttling you to a different airport, I’ve got it all planned out.

First Night and Beyond: Tailored to Your Comfort

For those who choose to unwind in a hotel on the first night, you’ll have time to relax and acclimatise. The next day, whether it’s a transfer to the airport for a light aircraft flight or a scenic drive directly to your safari destination, I take care of every detail.

Safari Experience: Shared or Private, Always Exceptional

Now, let’s talk about the safari itself. At the camps, you’ll join other guests for game drives and activities. But don’t worry about being crowded in – most camps use vehicles with a maximum of six guests, ensuring everyone gets a ‘window’ seat.

And remember, these are almost always open vehicles so you get almost a 360-degree view wherever you are!

If you’ve reserved a private vehicle or happen to be the only guests in camp, you’ll enjoy a more exclusive experience. However, the shared drives are a brilliant opportunity to make new friends – both with fellow adventurers and professional guides. Speaking of guides, they are always with you during safari activities, offering insights and ensuring your safety.

Socialising in Camp: As You Prefer

The beauty of these trips is that they cater to your social preferences. While dining with fellow guests adds to the experience, you always have the choice to enjoy meals at your own table. You can always join others around the roaring fire under the stars or at the bar – most of my clients have cherished the convivial atmosphere in camp, often forming lasting friendships.

Departure: Smooth and Seamless

As your journey draws to a close, I ensure your departure is as seamless as your arrival. All transfers are arranged for you, and my guys and gals will assist you right up to the check-in counter at the airport.

It’s all about making your sad goodbyes to Africa as smooth as your hellos.

So, a custom-built safari with The Grown-up Travel Company is far from a solitary experience. It’s a journey where you’re cared for every step of the way, with ample opportunities to meet fellow travellers and immerse yourself in the African wilderness under the guidance of professionals.
