Mount Mulanje is the highest peak in Malawi rising to an impressive height of 3000 metres. Dubbed the ‘Island in the Sky’, its imposing exposed rock face dominates the surrounding landscape and on misty days Mount Mulanje’s base is shrouded in a haze that creates an otherworldly effect of a floating island. This hiking mecca offers visitors everything from short day hikes to multi-day hikes, which pass over spectacular peaks through dense green valleys and past cascading waterfalls. Visitors can hike up the mountain along a network of trails and camp amidst pristine wilderness, spot a variety of wildlife including, many small mammals such as the ‘klipspringer’ antelope, and view a diversity of birdlife.
